Forbes yesterday released the comprehensive list of who is said to be the 2018 highest-paid athletes in the world. In the top 10 Highest Paid Athletes in the World 2018, three of the top five are soccer stars, while the other two to make the top five were involved in a one-off big-time boxing fight.
Boxer, Floyd Mayweather reclaimed his place at the 2018 top of Forbes’ annual ranking of 100 highest-paid athletes on Tuesday, 5th June 2018.
Money Mayweather ranks as the 2018 world’s highest-paid athlete for the fourth time in seven years. It only took 36 minutes in the ring against Conor McGregor for Mayweather to earn $275 million (he added $10 million more outside the ring).
Forbes reported that Mayweather, 41, topped sports highest-earners after banking $275 million dollars from his cross-combat super fight against mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor which took place in August 2017.
Lionel Messi edged out Cristiano Ronaldo despite the Portuguese earning nearly double the Argentine in endorsements. Two NFL stars did make the list of 2018 top 10 Highest Paid Athletes in the World, but they’re probably not the two NFL players most fans of the sport would have picked out.
Then again, in the list of top 10 Highest Paid Athletes in the World 2018, Brazilian footballer, Neymar was fifth on the list with $90 million in earnings, his salary boosted by his record-breaking transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain last year.

Messi finished the 2017-18 season as the top scoring player in the Top 5 European Leagues with 45 goals in all competitions. While Ronaldo netted 44 goals in 43 matches in all competition this past season and added a fifth Ballon d’Or, given to the world’s best player, and his fifth Champions League title to his trophy shelf.
